Executive Director Position


The Executive Director of the Kansas Rural Communities Foundation manages operations and serves as the central point of contact for the organization, representing the Board of Directors and developing and implementing strategies that promote the mission and goals of KRCF. The Executive Director provides oversight for the fiscal management of individual funds and the administration budget. The Executive Director is responsible for acting in accordance with the Bylaws. The Executive Director is responsible for fund development and increasing the assets of KRCF for maximum sustainability and service.

Job Duties

  • 30% Administration
    • Serve as the day-to-day administrator of KRCF.
      • Mail, email, and voicemail.
      • Respond to all funds and inquiries in a timely manner.
    • Serve as the fiscal administrator of KRCF.
      • Pay monthly administrative expenses, i.e., phone, rent, payroll.
      • Deposit all incoming monies and process fund disbursement requests.
      • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
      • Prepare and send all contribution receipts at least annually.
      • Prepare, file, and pay all payroll taxes and reports timely.
      • Prepare and file all required Form 1099’s.
      • Prepare all other compliance filings as required.
      • Prepare and monitor the administrative fund budget.
      • Compile information for the Form 990 and ensure the filing is completed on-time.
      • Contract with external Accountant to perform these duties, as necessary.
    • Coordinate monthly meetings for KRCF Board of Directors.
      • Communicate monthly meeting information to the Board.
      • Create monthly agenda, in cooperation with Board President.
      • Compile and discuss the monthly financial reports.
      • Prepare the Executive Director Report.
    • Provide support for the Board of Directors
      • Train new board members.
      • Coordinate information for board members.
      • Provide support for board members as requested.
    • Actively participate in KACF activities on behalf of KRCF.
    • Identify and execute process improvements and efficiencies. 
    • Prepare an annual report.
  • 30% Communication
    • Provide Funds support when requested.
    • Regularly communicate with affiliated Funds through their designated contacts.
    • Periodically attend affiliated Fund events.
    • Serve as the spokesperson of the Organization. Represent KRCF at public events and promote KRCF wherever and whenever possible.
    • Meet with individuals, communities and organizations who indicate an interest in starting an affiliated fund with KRCF.
    • Create content and generate interest in KRCF through social media.
    • Create and execute communication plans for mail, email, and social media.
  • 30% Development
    • In coordination with the Board, create and execute a development strategy that includes existing funds, KRCF Endowment and new funds.
    • Develop relationships with existing funds to increase financial assets for shared goals.  
    • Identify and develop prospective funds to establish new assets with KRCF.
    • Identify and steward donors for the KRCF Endowment fund.
    • Coordinate special events that support development of funds, like Match Day.
    • Evaluate fundraising trends continually to deploy as part of KRCF’s strategy.
    • Engage Board members in stewardship and outreach.
    • Report development activities and outcomes monthly to the Board.
  • 10% Other
    • All other duties as requested by the KRCF Board of Directors.
The Executive Director will work an average of 20-30 hours per week. This is an average with some weeks requiring more time and other weeks may require fewer hours. This is a professional position, and all work is expected to be completed in a timely manner.  Pay range is $25-$30 per hour, commensurate with experience.
The Executive Director will seek out continuing educational opportunities and pursue them with the Board of Director’s approval.
Skills/Core Competencies – Proficiency with budgets, data and document management processes, social media and email platforms, Microsoft Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Zoom or other video conferencing software. Familiarity with working with a Board of Directors for direction, action and decision making for the organization. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and time management. Experience with development and fundraising with donors or organizations. Must be a self-starter, trustworthy, and can prioritize the work. Preferred skills with QuickBooks and non-profit management experience. Training will be provided to gain an understanding of community foundation organizations – structure, function, and regulations to provide oversight and guidance to affiliated Funds.
