Executive Director Job Description

The Executive Director of the Kansas Rural Communities Foundation manages operations and serves as the central point of contact for the organization, representing the Board of Directors and developing and implementing strategies that promote the mission and voice of KRCF. The Executive Director provides oversight for the fiscal management of individual funds and the administration budget. The Executive Director is responsible for acting in accordance with the Bylaws.

Job Duties

50% – Administration

  • Serve as the day-to-day administrator of KRCF.
    • Mail, email, and voicemail.
    • Pay monthly administrative expenses, i.e., phone, rent payroll.
    • Send quarterly fund balance report to fund holders.
    • Oversee transactions with professional accounting services
    • Deposit all incoming monies and process fund disbursement requests.
  • Coordinate monthly meetings for KRCF Board of Directors.
    • Communicate monthly meeting information to the Board.
    • Create monthly agenda, in cooperation with Board President.
    • Prepare the Executive Director Report.
    • Create the monthly financial reports.
  • Provide support for the Board of Directors
    • Train new board members.
    • Coordinate information for board members.
    • Provide support for board members as requested.
  • Actively participate in KACF activities on behalf of KRCF.
  • Compile information for the Form 990.
  • Prepare an annual report.
  • In coordination with the Treasurer, prepare and monitor the Administrative Fund budget.

40% Communication

  • Provide Funds support when requested.
  • Regularly communicate with affiliated Funds through their designated contacts.
  • Periodically attend affiliated Fund events.
  • Serve as the spokesperson of the Organization. Represent KRCF at public events and promote KRCF wherever and whenever possible.
  • Meet with individuals, communities and organizations who indicate an interest in starting an affiliated fund with KRCF.
  • Create content and generate interest in KRCF through social media.
  • Create and execute a communication plan for mail, email, and social media.

10% Other

  • All other duties as requested by the KRCF Board of Directors.

The Executive Director will begin working an average of 10 hours per week, likely increasing to 20 hours per week as the organization grows. This is an average with some weeks requiring more time and other weeks may require fewer hours. This is a professional position, and all work is expected to be completed in a timely manner.

The Executive Director will seek out continuing educational opportunities and pursue them with the Board of Director’s approval.

Skills/Core Competencies – Proficiency with budgets, data and document management processes, social media and email platforms, Microsoft Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Zoom or other video conferencing software. Familiarity with working with a Board of Directors for direction, action and decision making for the organization. Excellent inter-personal communication skills and time management. Must be a self-starter, trustworthy, and can prioritize the work. Preferred skills with QuickBooks and non-profit management experience. Training will be provided to gain an understanding of community foundation organizations – structure, function, and regulations to provide oversight and guidance to affiliated Funds.
