Admire Fall Festival Saturday, Sept. 19
Events include professional wrestling, kiddie carnival, street dance and more
(September 11, 2009) Admire KS – The Admire Fall Festival will kick off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, and will incorporate a full day of activities for the whole family, including food and other vendors, horseshoe and talent contests, a silent auction, professional wrestling, a kiddie carnival, Identi-kid, a concert, educational displays, and a street dance. The event is sponsored by Admire Community PRIDE, a charitable fund with the Kansas Rural Communities Foundation headquartered in Wamego, to fund improvements for Jones Park.
Full- time professional musician, teaching artist, and songwriter Thad Beach will also be in Admire Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19. Beach says he “likes to get crazy ideas and turn them into songs.” He said he believes people need a chance to laugh more and recharge their spirit. Beginning at 9 a.m., Beach will conduct three, 30-minute workshops teaching participants to play along on homemade instruments from his "Band in a Bucket." A community family concert begins at 11 a.m., with the debut of a song written by Admire Grade School children who will also perform on “Band in a Bucket” instruments.
Kansas’ own professional wrestlers presented by Whiplash Wrestling will compete in the school gym from 1 to 4 p.m. A silent auction featuring bicycles, a barbeque grill, a smoker, and 14th row Kansas City Chiefs football tickets with parking will be available to bid on.
Admire is in North Lyon County, 18 minutes north of Emporia on Highway 99, 30 minutes southwest of Topeka via the Turnpike and Highway 56, and 20 minutes east of Council Grove.
Admire Community PRIDE established a charitable fund with the Kansas Rural Communities Foundation, Wamego, in December 2008 to raise funds to enhance the quality of life in the Admire community. The formation of the Kansas Rural Communities Foundation in 2006 as 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation created an efficient mechanism through which individuals, families, communities, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and private foundations have been able to create funds and make gifts to benefit their communities.
Donated dollars have established scholarships, built new community playgrounds, assisted families who have children with disabilities, and aided historical preservation, just to name a few. Some of the communities that have benefited from the services provided by the KRCF include Admire, Alma, Belvue, Havensville, Norton, Olsburg, Onaga, St. George, St. Marys, Wamego, Westmoreland, and Wheaton.
